Shameless 'Buzz' infomercial on Zev Brenner radio show 

This is the unfortunate reason why both Jewish talk radio and Jewish product gurus will never amount to anything. Zev Brenner on his Motzei Shabbos radio show was touting how he would have an electronics guru on his show to advise consumers on digital cameras and other popular electronics. Instead of advice from a real educated and well-informed technophile, what he had was an overblown, hot-aired, overlong Buzz electronics infomercial. The guy who he had on his shown unabashedly kept plugging the Buzz in every breath and offered little to no real advice on cameras. Every question given to him by the host or by a caller was answered by directing them to the Buzz. To make matters even worse, this 'guru' would recommend one of two specific Samsung camera models to almost every caller.

The other day, Nachum Segal or Zev Brenner had the owner of Pomegranate for an "interview". As above, the entire segment was a thinly-veiled infomercial for the supermarket. Even the "tough" questions were set up.

An example that disgusted me:

Host: "Has anyone ever been upset or critical of your establishment?"

Owner: "Yes, there was one woman who 'complained' that she shopped there once, and now she's hooked."

How low have we come? An infomercial is perfectly fine as long as it is presented as such.

 

Payola (the taking of money by a DJ or radio station to play a particular artist's work or song or to promote a product for "free")is against the law everywhere but on Jewish radio broadcasts. Years ago, on the station honoring Everett V Debs, a wellknown Jewish DJ, living in Florida, had his Westchester condo fees paid by one brothere of a two brother duo. Of course the DJ featured the one brother's work, all the time. He got caught and was forced off the air.

I remember not so long ago, a Jewish DJ saying on the air how he liked a certain piece of furniture that his new advertiser had in his factory. Imagine our surprise when, after two weeks of hearing how much he liked that piece of furniture, the workers of that advertiser gave it to the DJ as a "present".

Obviously the "voices" of the Jewish Community aren't. They are all just like the illustrious govenor of Illinois.

 

There is a two line ATT phone model #E2562 which has a major problem: when you are on speaker using line one and you get a call on line two, you must press the hold button and also press down the receiver lever while you press line two.
All stores were taking back these phones.
How amazing, weeks later this phone was being advertised, none stop, by the Buzz on the Zev Brenner show as something special and for a great price.
Why should innocent people buy these phones.

 

Yuck - and very honestly same goes for Music, Restaurant and Books reviews - let me not give examples

 

It has been going on for some time, and there are loads of them.

I am not sure why you are complaining only now.

 

Do people really listen to these silly shows? Why???!?!?

 

This is why I just cannot stomach these shows.

yes. me i went in to buy some of their specials when i got to the counter the cashier say limit of 4. on the sign in very very small words it said limit 4 i told the manager that is very deceiving. the cashier said people were complaining all day but the manager did nothing. i wouldn't buy there. their advertisement is very deceiving

 

Printing in small letters is not deceiving. It's called fine print. It's your responsibility to read it. All the Brooklyn grocery stores have a limit on sale items. I am not defending Pomegranate. I live 2 blocks from there and do not shop there.

pomegranate is a beautiful store.
the owner is a big baal tzedaka.
one of the wonderful things about living in the us is that u can choose where u prefer to shop.
no one is forced to shop where they dont want to.

 

I think everyone realizes that Zev Brenner has had a monopoly with his programs for 25 years. However, it is becoming very clear that the entire purpose is for him to make money, and he figures that Jewish listeners will listen anyway because of his monopoly. Therefore we see that most programs lately are advertising for people who pay him, such as Sam Asch. It's pathetic. Zev Brenner would never succeed in the world of real talk radio anyway. His enunciation and use of English is terrible. He can't stop using stock phrases such as "bantied about" from the 1960s. His show used to be an advertisement for just plain Zionism, but I guess he wasn't making enough money so he moved over to just plain advertising. I wonder how much comes in from that boring Liozhna program or from the neurotic Yakov Spivak Program or that other guy who talks about business, Wall Street etc.

Zev brenner is a prick,,, he once had for 3 nights on a lady from BP who clamed Agudas Haronbonim was corrupt and paid off for a heter maeh rabonim etc. bad mothed Ginzberg etc. for hours and later it was found it she paid for the time and in the end the courts threw out the case and she lost a think a bobover lady

he never said it was paid advertisment and also never appologized for being mevazah a great talmid chochim

 

Any Jewish "frum" society that permits married men to use "heter meah reshaim" or similar theological tricks which end in a result of the man being able to remarry but the woman not being able to, does not deserve to continue.

I would sooner respect psakim from Reform and non-denominational "Rabbis" than any Boro Park rabbis that go abotu their daily prayers and other matters of religious daily life while allowing, through non-action, for these women to continue to be so mistreated.

 

A word about Zev Brenner...

He doesn't have a regular job and he doesn't earn regular money. So when he needs to 'buy' say a camera, he'll walk into an electronics store and convince them to advertise on his show in exchange for adtime. He does this with his plumbers, as well as with every other imaginable provider of goods/services. If you pay attention to his commercials you'll notice that most of them run for at most a year, until the advertiser realizes that Zev is draining them for all they are worth. I speak from personal experience and I have also spoken to other advertisers and I know that his commercials bring zero results. He has no plan or vision for his show. His only plan is to milk these poor advertisers for as long as possible. When they tell him that they can't provide him with free goods/services anymore, he offers to bring them on the show to 'plug' the business, how pathetic.

 

Zevel Brenner is a busha vecherpa. He'll interview anyone to get a few more than his usual three listeners - Moshe Aryeh Friedman, the freak meshichist ladies who don't fast, Ishmoel Dovid Scheiss, anyone who wants a little attention gets it from Zevel.

I will never forget how he walked into my Chabad shul after the 1991 CH riots and told us that we needed to build bridges to the shvuggies and to stop using words like schvartz and abeed. Two of us in the room were directly affected by the riots and we were ready to lynch him on the spot. He was debating Hikind and just needed to say something because Hikind was washing the floor with him.

 

Nothing wrong with making money, nor is there anything wrong in working full time in radio. People are free to tune in or out--and eventually the advertisers will catch on to the true number of his listeners.

 

Anyone remember the hatchet job, on national TV, over 20 years ago, Brenner pulled on Rabbi meir Kahane of blessed memory?

I hope he rots in hell!!
