Cops ignore witnesses in Sanitation truck accident

A New York City Sanitation truck passed a red light and smashed into a car on 14th Avenue and 47th Street. In a very rare occurrence, there happened to be a Police car on the street passing by at the time. The Cops stopped and came over to the scene of the accident and began to assess the situation. People who had witnessed the entire accident came forward to the tell the Police Officers that they had seen the garbage truck pass the red light. One by one the Officers shrugged off the witnesses and refused to take their statements. When confronted by a witness who accused them of not caring, they ignored him as well and continued as if nothing had been said.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Please follow up the story and forward to NYPD internal affairs.

A similar incident happened years ago with my Ex. She was legally waiting for a light to turn green, when she was side-swiped by a fire truck.

The cops witnessed it, and tried to do the right thing by stopping the fire engine on its way back from the false alarm.

The fire truck driver refused to speak to the cop, and called for his chief.

The fire chief, who can write tickets, arrived on the scene, and against the protests of the cop, wrote my wife a ticket for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, thus making the accident her fault.

Then, the fire chief pulled the cop to the side and said, "Hey! We both are NYC employees. We stick together."
The cop then shrugged his shoulders, and left.
When my ex tried to get a statement from him later, by contacting him through the police station, even with lawyers, and all, he simply said, "Whatever the fire chief wrote on the ticket stands, and I will not testify against him.

Same thing here. They can't go against the other city agencies.

I was once broadsided by a garbage truck that ran a red light. Within minutes (before the police) another garbage truck showed up & claimed to have been right behind the truck that hit me when I ran the light
