Top 50 Influential Rabbis in America

Here is the second annual version of the list—generated by Michael Lynton, (chairman & CEO, Sony Pictures Entertainment), Gary Ginsberg, (executive VP, global marketing and corporate affairs, News Corp.) and Jay Sanderson, (CEO and executive producer, JTN/JTN Productions)—of the 50 most influential rabbis in America. In the fall of 2006, the friends, interested in the future of American Jewry and the evolving role of the rabbi, started a conversation that eventually became "the list." The machers ranked the rabbis based on the following unscientific criteria:

• Are they known nationally/internationally? (20 points)
• Do they have political/social influence? (20 points)
• Do they have a media presence? (10 points)
• Are they leaders within their communities? (10 points)
• Are they considered leaders in Judaism or their movements? (10 points)
• Size of their constituency (10 points)
• Have they made an impact on Judaism in their career? (10 points)
• Have they made a greater impact beyond the Jewish community and their Rabbinical training? (10 points)

Rabbi Zalman Teitelbaum fell from #15 to #16 while Rabbi Ahron Teitelbaum did not make the top 50.

Comments:
Just to show how unreliable this list is, #40 is Rabbi Hayyim Herring, but there is no mention of the equally influential Rabbi Sol Kichel or Jonathan Eir-tzveebel

can th e chevre come up with the top Kiruv Rabbis or Seminary Rabbis?

they left out country yossi!

Please explain to me why anyone should care what three self-annointed and self-appointed "experts" think? Exactly who are Michael Lynton, Gary Ginsberg and Jay Sanderson, and what qualifies them to rank anyone? Can anyone reading this blog point to any substantial contributions they have made to any Jewish causes or concerns? Do you think the readers of the silly article in Newsweek can?

Since when did Yehuda Berg, a/k/a "Madonna's rabbi" become Orthodox?

Is apikorsus a new branch of Orthodox Judaism?

just to let you all know, this list has NOTHING to do with torah, it has to do with how much money you spend on PR
seeing rabbi Zalman Teitelbaum on this list reminds me of the Sheino Yodei Lishol in the Hagudah

Notice how the only Chareidi rabbi is Nosson Scherman.

notice that not one of these rabbis listed here, were involved in the Lipa mess, from last month.

you guys have no right to make fun of zalman.

Wait...where is the Spinka Rebbe?

I thought it was pretty impressive to see so many orthodox names on the list and glad that artscroll got some PR.

it is not nice to write like that on reb zalman teitelbaum
after all he is a leader to many. so what he can't learn, plenty of rabunim today are not good in learning. as long he is against the Eiruv and against Arizona wheet and against Kol Holam Kiloy and against the mixed wedding hall Ateres Avruhum in willimasburg, that's what counts and makes a Rebbe in to the 50 most influential.
too bad Rabbi Malkiel kutler and many other worldly Gdolim including his older brother the Satmar rebbe don't have PR Comapanies

since when was

"Yehuda Krinsky (Lubavitch)
(2007 Ranking #2)
Global leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, a branch of Hasidism."

Who made him Rebbe?

It's regrettable that speaking emes has little to do with ranking or popularity, but that's the world we live in.

It would be like Al Sharpton making the top list of pastors.
