Television is ok if watched on your computer: Williamsburg activist

Among the five or so "Law & Order" episodes that appeared on primetime television last week, one that hit closest to home - for some, at least - involved an investigation into possible pedophilia in Williamsburg's Hasidic community.

Although watching TV is shunned among Satmar Hasidim, it didn't stop one local leader from critiquing the portrayal, to which - no surprise - he gave two thumbs down.

"It was a rerun," sighed Isaac Abraham, who watched the episode from his computer a month or so earlier after someone sent a link for the show to his e-mail account.

Comments:
This fellow clearly doesn't understand the halacha. The distinction is not whether you watch it on your computer or not, the distinction is whether you watch it in a manner that no one else knows about. Once this fellow announced to the public that he watched the show, even if he originally watched it in a manner that was permitted (i.e. no one knew about it) it become an issur l'mafreia and he is asid litein din v'cheshvon for having watched this.

please do not criticize our holy Rabbi Beirach Moshe of satmar (R' lipa teitelbaum's) best buddy Mr. Abraham.
I am sure whatever he does is under the supervision of the holy satmar rebbe, reb Zalaman shlitas with his brother Reb Lipa

It is perfectly all right to watch television as long as there is nothing wrong on it. One should never waste his time with idle pursuits. That requires definition. If one is supposed to judge what is and what is not 'kosher' then one has to see what is being shown. That doesn't mean watching for pleasure or to consume one's time with that activity. After seeing what is being shown one knows if it is or is not appropriate. Since most of what is shown is really inappropriate,it is a good rule to stay away from TV. That does not mean it is a blanket 'issur' for everyone. For some people,it is ok,but discretion is required. Children should not watch anytime unless a responsible adult supervises. It is desirable not to let them ever start the activity of TV-watching. In order to critique a program and to voice your opoinion then you have to watch so you can be honest about your criticism. It would be a better idea for our people, especially Hasidim who wear their special garb in public,to be on their best behavior and moral at all times. Then no one would portray us negatively.

MR. ABRAHAM DOES NOT NEED A COMPUTER TO WATCH THE EPISODE. HE AND HIS WIFE PROBABLY OWN A T.V. HIS RABBI REB ZALMEN LEIB TEITELBAUM ALOWS HIM TO OWN ONE BECAUSE HE IS A POLITICIAN AND HE IS THE SATMAR PUBLIC RELATION GUY.

I watched the episode. While it is overly dramatized and got many details wrong, it is not very far off the mark. A story generally along those lines CAN happen in our community.

hey guys i watched the video too
its the sad truth
