Kolko Sentenced in Abuse Case

A Brooklyn Rabbi pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a spokesperson for the Brooklyn prosecutor said.

Rabbi Joel Kolko has been sentenced to three years probation and will enroll in counseling.

Kolko had been charged with two counts of sex abuse in the first degree, one count each of sex abuse in the second and third degrees, one count each of harassment in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

The charges were made in connection with incidents that accusers said happened between the early 80s and 2006. The Yeshiva and Mesivta Torah Temimah, where Kolko taught, was also accused of covering up the incidents of abuse and threatening parents who tried to report them.

The Yeshiva denied those claims.

Comments:
GUILTY of endangering the welfare of a child. The same thing you get charged with when you leave your 14yr old at home for a few minutes.

If the was any real evidence, the DA would have gone for the 20 years of prison he was facing.

For me, this spells INNOCENT!

i knew he was guilty!

This is an utter disgrace. There was incontrovertible proof that this monster was molesting boys for decades and he gets 3 YEARS PROBATION???? This smells of a dirty rat called: PAYOLA AND UTTER CORRUPTION so typical of this disgraceful, corrupt town and that heinous D.A. Charles Hynes, avowed protecter of child rapists. They should take that District Attorney and DISBAR him for life. This is NOT JUSTICE FOR THOSE VICTIMS!!!

Maybe now it is time for the victim and/or their fathers to even up the remaining score. A baseball bat should do.

You're a naar!

"Spells innocent?"

He pleaded GUILTY you fool!

We call this a plea bargain.

"Spells" to me that had he gone to trial, he would have been found guilty and gotten sentenced to jail time.

Too bad, really. I am sure I am not the only one who would have liked to see Kolko up in Attica playing b---h to another inmate.

Now, for the civil suit.

Rabbi Kolko only pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child. Many parents are convicted of this for being negligent with their kids (ex: leaving a child in a car that is over 90 degrees, or alone at home). It is highly unusual for a plea deal to be offered to someone indicted on such a serious offense. This makes it evident that there was no real case against Rabbi Kolko. The plea deal was a truce between rabbi Kolko and the DA. People can make up all of the baloney they want (corruption, $$), but if there was substantial evidence, a plea deal like this would not have been put on the table. This plea deal was offered fair and square.

The local NYC paper wrote that
the children were in the first
grade. Also, the good rabbi
asked an adult to touch him.
This man of god needs to be
locked up.

Many parents???!!! Maybe in your family but not by normal people.

Plea deals like this are made all the time. It saves the accuser the trauma of telling the whole world exactly what happened.

Amazing. After 40 years of rumors all about one out of thousands of mechanchim who are never accused of anything like this there are still people ready to defend this rotzai'ach.

Probably they themselves are sick perverts and are happy to see there is hope that if they are caught they will also not go to jail.

To Mr. Esq:
You have all the refined eloquence of a declasse Brooklyn ambulance-chaser. There is nothing "fair" or "square" about letting that pervert walk the streets of Brooklyn that are crawling with kids. Perhaps you'd like to invite Mr. Kolko over to YOUR house to babysit YOUR children. I'm sure he'd be only too happy to oblige!
THE SIMPLE REASON WHY THEY REDUCED THE CHARGES IS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE PEOPLE HERE ARE TO SPINELESS AND CHARACTERLESS TO SHOW ANY OUTRAGE.

Mr. Esq.

I take it that were you accused of molesting little boys and offered a plea deal, you would accept and plead guilty to lesser charges instead of defending yourself.

Kolko is, and has been for over forty years, guilty of molesting boys in the Mir, Yeshiva Torah Temimah (with Margulies' knowledge), Camp Agudah, Stolin, Camp MaNaVu and who knows where else.

Obviously precautions have to be taken whether or not the accusations are true. But at the same time, you can not badmouth Rabbi Kolko for something that he was not convicted of. There is no proof that Rabbi Kolko committed such horrible acts that clueless people are foolishly ranting about. Hearsay is not acceptable. While plea deals are given, they are almost never as minor as this one. This plea deal was not just offered to protect the victim. It also portrays a lack of evidence. Rabbi Kolko stands innocent until proven guilty.

As always there will be those that will side with kolko and those that will be against him. I can only tell you thay 25 years ago when I was a counselor in another camp every one of our staff knew about kolko and his misdeeds. If there was no truth to these stories there would be no need to use threats to parents to keep quite. I for one can no longer daven because I remember what a Rebbe did to me during davening every day in first grade. And when I once confronted him about it during recess the belt came off and I got a warning beating from him. Thank G-D he is dead otherwise I would haul him in court like they did to kolko

Mr. Esq.--

Whoever you are, please stop pretending to be a lawyer.

Comments such as, "There is no proof that Rabbi Kolko committed such horrible acts. . ." are such tipshus that they would not be said by someone who even walked across the street from a law school.

A plea of guilty is equivalent to a conviction after trial.

Read this a few times and memorize it.

And by the way, do you know what an "allocution" is or was that not covered on the episodes of "Law And Order" you watched?

Chaptzem, time to ban this idiot.

This will probably keep Kolko off the sex-offender registry.

Sadly, Boro Park has someone lacking reading comprehension. As a lawyer, I can tell you that Mr. Esq. has got it right on the ball. The "plea of guilty" was only to a misdemeanor, and not the more serious charges that people are accusing Rabbi Kolko of WITHOUT ANY PROOF. This plea is NOT at all equivalent to a conviction of sex abuse. Bringing in "allocution" makes you sound equally retarded. You're not a real B.P. lawyer. You can't convey a sentence that a kid could understand without any further explanation.

Mr. Esq does not understand the law. There is no notion, and certainly no law, that the fact that Kolko was not convicted of molestation means that he did not commit molestation. There is no law, and no notion, that forbids us from stating that he did commit molestation. All that happened was that he got a very good deal by pleading down to a lesser offense.

How did he get that deal? Simple: while his guilt may be as clear as day, there may be procedural barriers to bringing certain evidence against him. It may be the case that the victims do not wish to come forward and discuss the acts that Kolko committed (would you?). It may be that the kids themselves are very impeachable.

But it does not mean that he is innocent of any crime. The presumption of innocense exists in a court of law, not in the court of public opinion. In the court of public opinion, hearsay is acceptable. Despite what you say, we may badmouth him all we want.

He plead guilty to child endangerment based on the fact that he molested children, not based on the fact that he left a child in a car. That means that his attorney thought he would be convicted if he went to trial, and decided to take the deal.

That having been said, those who want to cast aspersions at the DA (which I, in general, do not object to) may be off the mark as well. There may be very good reasons to offer Kolko a deal, rather than take the case to trial.

KOLKO IS GUILTY THIS IS 100% ACCURATE. THE REASON THE DA WANTED IT THIS WAY IS FOR MANY REASONS, REMEMBER YTT TAX FORM 1040 SAID KOLKO WAS MAKING 10,000.00 A YEAR,AND HE WAS MAKING CLOSE TO 100,000.00 A YEAR. HOW DID KOLKO DEPOSIT MORE IN HIS CHECKING ACCOUNT THEN HE MADE,,,,,,,,YTT GAVE IN TO IRS 10,000.00 YEAR,FROM WHERE DID THE REST COME FROM
FIGURE OUT THE REST.THIS CASE IS FAR FROM OVER. the DA IS NOT STUPID.

A real attorney in B.P.---

If you read Mr. Esq.'s comment a few times, you might be able to figure out that when he said "you can not badmouth Rabbi Kolko for something that he was not convicted", he was referring to the molesting and harassment charges. No one is debating the minor misdemeanor that Rabbi Kolko pleaded guilty to. That plea does not prove that Rabbi Kolko did any of the serious things that people are talking about.

Fron the NY Daily News:

"The case unraveled after prosecutors found that an adult accuser had been charged with making up unrelated accusations against others, a law enforcement source said".

1. Kolko acknowledged guilt.

2. A plea deal always involves a reduction in the charges and penalty.

3. Kolko is not accused of sodomy or rape. He is a "fondler."

4. Only two of the six victims who have filed cases thus far fell within the statute of limitations for criminal charges.

5. If any of Kolko's many victims who have not yet filed cases now step forward, Kolko will be indicted and arrested again on new charges.

This saga has just begun and this plea is a victory for the good guys.

i think this whole thing is a major chilil hashem they should have brought him to a Bais Din

Boroch hashem somebody confronted that sick person. When i was in kolko class 24 years ago he touch my gentiles many times.Guilty it's so accurate.I am glad people are speaking and finally puting end to sick man kolko.Kolko damaged me and also my friend. When my father went to rosh yeshiva in 1984 and told him what kolko did the hungarian maniac told my father your son is expelled from school and will not be let back.My father was very disturbed and started to cry to my mother and said what's going on here? boroch hashem he got me in another yeshiva and i graduated from mir.when i lost my father in 1991 the day he past a way he told me " my son one day kolko will have a lot of problems and margolious also" don't let it haunt you.It even disturb my father the day he passed a way. Today 24 years later i still remember what kolko did to me.
Kolko is guilty and the punishment he recieved is a disgrace to the judicial system. When someone told me all these stories are fabricated i told him ,you should of have him as a rebbi.
chaim buchinger /monsey ny

to anon @9:28 Bais din today is unfortunately a sham. noone would get convicted least of all a rebbe, especially when a lot of rebbaim would come testify on his behalf.

People ::::
Where thier is smoke thier is fire.
You mean to say from all the allegations that happen now and going back 40 years don't you think that rosh yeshiva of ytt should of expelled kolko???????????
when kolko taught in stolin in 1977where i was a student at that time he did the same non sense and stolin threw him out right a way and did not dispute the allegations. Then he went to ytt and you mean to say that in all these years
NO PARENT COMPLAINED
NO STUDENT COMPLAIN TO ROSH YESHIVA
The answer is yes people did complain and the dean did not want to listen. Margo is more liable then kolko because he held him in his yeshiva.I know many parents my age are suffering because of margo and kolko.
Margo should of seen he had a child molester in his yeshiva and now i hope he will pay or loose his entire yeshiva for all the damage he let happen.
I don't believe for one second that margo never knew.
every dog has it's day.

To Mr Buchinger, I would like to applaud you for your courage. I too, live in Monsey, and grew up hearing these stories from my husband, who BH was not in Kolko's class but did go to YTT. My heart goes out to you and your friend, I truly feel that Kolko and others like him, of which there are many, will and should ALL PAY..and Hashem sees everything. I am embarrassed to even have him call himself 'frum', Rabbi' or any term connected with Yidden. I know your father up in shomayim is going to watch over you and after 120 when Kolko goes up(and hopefully sooner) Your father will be wating to take him to bais din...from Gehinnom he will NEVER get out....
I wish you haztlacha in every way...
