Out of the Inbox - How the rabbanim can win back the respect of the people

Sent in by a Chaptzem reader

Chaptzem, the last item on your ten kosher activities list touched on something very true and real for me. I am a melamed in a chasidishe yeshiva and am at the end of my rope with watching what goes on there and in my chasides. Yeah, the concert is usser and everyone will attend anyway. It's time the rabbunim stop signing stupid useless bans and start doing something for their followers. If the rabbunim want to establish themselves as a real force of leadership they have to start working on matters that mean something. If the rabbunim want to accomplish something they can take a first step by coming out publicly against all the child molesters in our community. They can stop collecting money for their bail and trials and start putting them away for good. Banning a concert for no other reason than to get publicity does nothing for the many innocent frimme kids that get fondled by frim adults that the rabbunim know about.

Comments:
So true, I toataly agree. You want to know who will be at this Big Event, and who shops at Ducci; the wifes and children of these rabbunim.

SORRY, I AM NOT FRUM...BUT I KNOW FRUM PEOPLE AND THEY ARE VERY HONEST AND EHRLECH.
JUST BECAUSE OF A SMALL PERCENT OF THE PHONIES OR FAKES IN THE FRUM COMMUNITY, YOU HAVE TO BASH ALL FRUM CHASSIDUM.

the people who want to "win back" the respect for rabbonim are the people who never had respect for them to begin with. the people who had respect for the rabbomnin still have it. the people who have no respect for rabbonin are apikorsin see sanhadrin perek chalek "aizay apikores zah hamvazeh talmiday chacahmim".those who "lost repect" (which they never had) for rabbonin will win it back back when rabonim will be mattir asirum to thier liking.

As for the 10 commandments : I love Lipa so I shell not attend the so called event.

funny, I thought an apikoros was a follower of epicurus;

I hope you were talking to yourself. What are you doing here on the blog? Didn't the Rabonim ban INTERNET (what you just did 11:15am)?

Don't come here to tell me what to do. Practice what you preach!!!

The episode with the concert can easily be resolved. Just replace lipa with michael jackson. The gedolim would be more comfortable with a pedophile then with a chasiddishe entertainer.

I heard that the organizers tried to persuade the paiya rebbe, yankel fefferkon and mendel the coat rack to sign off on the hamlatza. But they all declined to sign stating truthfully that they are much more normal then the other co-signers.

Yes, the disease of sexual perversion is here in our community also, just as in every other community in the world.

Yes, we need to work on reducing it, stopping it, punishing those who do it, or get them real help, etc.,

But, do not for a minute believe we have it worse than other groups! While we have some disgusting guys fondle boys in the mikvah, or similar things, other groups are plagued by parents allowing adults who are their friends or relatives have sex with their children!

Before you put our frum, Jewish community down, learn about the non Jewish community. I worked with some therapists who had to deal with girls who were used repeatedly by uncles and and friends while their parents were in the same room!

Though even one act of sexualizing a child is dead wrong and needs to be stopped, let's not paint a picture of the Frum Community as being perverted. We have our weirdos, but, thank G-d, they are not as bad as some the goyishe weirdos.

All the comments about our Frum perverts or frum criminals make it sound like the frum world is full of perverts and criminals.

The reality is that if you go to the prisons, or just check the arrest records, we have a VERY GOOD record of LOW CRIME, and LOW INCIDENCE of perversion.

While we do need to try to eradicate what criminal behavior we do have, and stop the perverts from praying on our kids, let's also be thankful and be proud that we are NOT like the goyim, and we ARE doing better than they are.

So, why are we so wildly upset about each Jewish criminal or pervert? Because we are Jews, and we are embarrassed by even one act that is not the Torah way. We expect the Chassidim and Frum people to be so much better than most, that we are horrified when we see the exception.

But, make no mistake. The Frum criminal and the frum pervert IS THE EXCEPTION.

Why do we hear so much more about it now? Some say it is because more is reported today, due to better education. But though that is valid, the truth is that OUR FRUM POPULATION HAS Boruch Hashem GROWN EXPONENTIALLY during the past half century here in the US.

The VAST Majority of Chassidishe men are good, honest, law-abiding citizens, who work for an honest living. Forget all those stereotypes, they are wrong. They are not lazy men being supported by their wives. On the contrary, the Chassidishe men work real jobs and support their families to the best of their abilities.

As far as respect for our rabbonim. They deserve our respect now. They are wonderful and amazing. They really care. That we don't always like the takonas or bans, only shows our own taivos and weaknesses. Thank you, rabbonim, for helping us fight our yetzer hora.

jent1320... well said!

I am so upset, I have to leave my comments. i am angry at the people who give Rabbis the power to influence our society. What do they know?? They are regular old people like me. No different. I also am smart, educated, and learned. So why does their opinion hold so much sway? it frustrates me! And where were these guys when it came time to condemn the child molestation and tax fraud in our community?? Common!

to anonymous 2/24/1:45 pm. we just reread twice what we wrote 2/24 11:15 am. didnt see anything that we're suggesting anyone to do anything, can you help us out?(qouting you "dont tell me what to do")

to anon 2:29 PM
You are so busy defending our Rabonim, all this piece says is that our Rabonim instead of assering and banning concerts they should first be involved in helping our kids fight perverts rather than protecting them as one of the signers on this kol koreh did for over thirty years. All the other rabonim that signed on probably never heard Lipa and were told lies to convince them to sign, but that one signer the so called "Rav" who is nothing more than a real estate millionaire who protected a child molester rebbi in his yeshiva building for so many years so he can molest others, by putting him in the mix he only dicredits the real rabonim who signed with him. I really hope that they are not on the same level the Torah does say
"HASHOICHAD YEAVEIR EINI CHACOMIM V'YESALEIF DIVREI TZADIKIM" how sad is it that our children and grandchildren don't have any leadership we are an "AM YOSOIM"

to A' Torah Yid : February 24, 2008 4:35 PM:
Your wrong, Rabbonim are different than plain old you, they are the Das Torah that are here to lead us. When I have to ask a qes I ask a Rov not YOU. So there does exist a dif. Das Torah to lead us vs. good old you. We should conduct our lives in the way our rabbonim tell us to (such as Mesilas Yeshorim) and not the way we ourselves think is right. Yes you may be right that the Rabbonim should have started elsewhere (like the hi cost of yeshiva tuition, young ppl should get an education and not depend on their wife or father in law for support) but since they already made the prohibition and these are the ppl we look up to we must follow them.
PS: What's the big deal about not going to a concert, you guys are all crying for nothing, maybe if you'd sit in a chemo chair you'd see that its so stupid to even complain about this stupidity.

Lipa Margulies signed a ban against going to a Lipa Schmeltzer concert?

Oilum hepach ruisi.

Perhaps Lipa Schmeltzer should circulate a ban for signature that bans sending children to pedophile protector Lipa Margulies' Yeshiva Torah Temimah.

I do not get how you do not see this whole thing as ridiculous. I agree not the whole Jewish community is like this but those who make the news are like this and they are what people from the outside see. The "Gedolei Hador" of our times seem to be wasting their time with all of these bans. They do not seem to take care of problems that are much worse such as; kids going off the derech, drugs, alcohol, fraud, and other crimes. Do you not see how miss guided we as Jews are that we seem to care more about Jews hanging out at a concert, which I still have not found where in the Torah it says we can not do so, than kids and adults who need help. We have men who beat their wives and kids. Yes the non-Jewish communities also have these problems but since we are Jewish we are held to a higher standard and we do not seem to be able to live up to that standard. Dont get me worng I am not trying to bash Jews rather I just wanted to tell you who misconstrued we (and I include myself) as a people are.

I just heard from a reliable source that there is another ban coming out by Rabbi Yisroel Belsky against going to the zoo on Chol Hamoed Pesach. He insists that the zoo it is full of shreiklicha pritzus, with mixed crowds of chassidishe men and women standing together with minor children watching pedophile monkeys and apes dancing and swinging together without any clothing, or, watching walruses and seals skinny-dipping without any mechitza.

Rabbi Belsky admits that the last time he went to the zoo he found himself very aroused by all the pritzus and feels that future visits there must be stopped. He is now in the process of drafting a new Kol Koreh on the subject called LO ZOO AF ZOO.

To Fanny Ralbag,
How dare you talk about a Rosh Yeshiva in that way. You Should be embarassed of the low level you brought yourself down to, not to mention that everyone who saw what you wrote either laughed because they are on the same low level as you are on or realized that u need a HUGE refua shelema and wish that they can find out your name so they can say tehillim for you...May you have a speedy recovery, Besoch She'ar Choilei Yisroel.

To Malach Hamovis,
Very appropriate name that you have. May you soon recover from the spiritual illness that is horribly affecting you. To talk about Rabbanim the way do is dispicable.

LEGAL Action?

Well, if it's really true that some Rabbanan don't seem to be so concerned about pedophiles, child molestation, and other perverts in our community; I know a case where the Rabbanan of that community got alarmed, and were forced to confront it. This happened after a family member of the victim seemd dead set on taking ILLEGAL action!...
