Boro-Park neighborhood organization peeved at new Maimonides building

Comments:
The building in question is an apartment building that is occupied by nisht fin inzereh, and they are all very nidrigeh class (im)mentchen. gf Maimonides turned this building into a medical unit, it would only make the neighborhood safer.

Am I the only one who noticed the spelling/grammatical mistake on the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals form (the 2nd image), where it states

"This form is being sent to notify you THAN an application for a variance..."

The correct word should be "THAT an aplication". It surprises me that no one caught this error in all this time on a NYC official form.

it looks like the head of the association is a rabbi from yetev lev which is satmar. does he or anyone else on the board object when satmar or any other sect builds large shuls or yeshivas or beis medrash that do not conform with the block? i dont think so. wht is it ok for yeshivas andf shuls to build such huge buildings which increase traffic and school buses? or catering halls which bring in tons of noise of traffic? that doesnt decrease their quality of life and property value? thjey are self centered and hold a double standard. it is ok when their own do it but when something that serves the WHOLE community wants to build they scream! grow up!

I live in the neighborhood and can attest that they have ruined the neighborhood any property going up for sale is literally snatched up by Maimonides and they simply control the neighborhood. Put it this way take an ordinary day and try to find a parking place it is impossible the only time you might have luck is when there is a shift change which includes 7:30-8:00pm and 11:30pm come a half hour later and you're doomed you can circle the blocks for over an hour and not find a single spot forget about finding a spot during daytime hours! or on a day prior to one when alternate side regulations are in effect! Why shouldn't we put our foot down and say for every so-and-so meters in property owned there should be another spot added to the parking garage no one would complain should they decide to add another ten stories to the parking building they have tens and tens of nurses occupying our parking spaces for 8 hours straight and they have the chutzpah to close the parking garage at midnight! Rumor also has it that they are considering closing 10thg Avenue between 48th and 49th and build a new entrance there! How am I going to get to Milk n' Honey Motzei shabbos ? walk around the block?! And what about the traffic this will generate on the surrounding streets? It's time to put an end to these money hungry morons taking over what was once intended to be a Jewish hospital which is now run by Jew haters just looking to make a buck- employing more Muslim (Pakistani/Indian) doctors than Jewish ones! Think they are there to cure you? Ever took an x-ray there? There is a charge for using the room a charge for the equipment a charge for reading the x-ray a charge for the x-ray itself ……….No wonder they gained the reputation they have.........YES! I am frustrated!

cut the crap with inadequate housing. Are the developers that greedy to argue over one building? Would they actually prevent a hospital which provides healthcare to thousands from making necessary expansions to service the community?

To the neighbors:

Where do you go when you need hospital care?
Can it be that a bribe would satisfy Satmar's greed?

whi dont i hear anybody screaming or complaining when a catering hall opens up? they also use up all the parking spots from 6-11 at night and make alot of noise with people hanging out in the street, double parking, honking, asmoking etc. or when a yeshiva builds a huge building and the rabbeim park on the streets from 8-2 and teachers from 2-6:30? why didnt anybody scream when bobov bought an entire block almost and has 48th street closed everyday when the bochurim play in the street? the answer is easy. people welcome this because it benefits them and they know who will be frequenting the area. people in boro park get nervous when "outsiders" will visit their neighborhood and that is why they are signing the petition!! I would not be happy if this would happen on my block either and i understand how these people feel but the double standard is right there screaming in your face! ateres chaya is ok. ateres chynka is ok. ateres avraham is ok. vizhnitz is ok. bobov beis medrash is ok. munkatch beis medrash is ok. satmar beis medrash is ok. all other mosdos are ok. miamonidies hospitalk is not ok. sounds fishy to me.

to the only person to notice the spelling/grammer mistake... application has two P's in it

What, you think Satmar is interested in neighborhood aesthetics? They're looking for a settlement, you know how that works, you file a junk claim, its cheaper to settle, you walk away with a couple grand.

Another Maimonides land grab similar to the one a few years ago when they had the CHUTZPAH to take over 10th Avenue between 48th and 49th without any approval whatsoever.

I also live in the neighborhood and I know the building. It is full of goyim and I agree with the first poster who said that Maimonides would only improve the neighborhood. But I also agree that parking will become a major issue, and that is probably the only issue that should be petitioned. Then again, so should parking for all public arenas - halls, yeshivas, schools, etc...

Wow, can't believe you people are actually protesting this. Have you ever walked into the ER in MMC and saw how ridiculously overcrowded it is? If your mother, father, sister, brother etc. needed to step foot into that ER I bet you wouldn't be bitching about the expansion building. I suppose putting up another shul would have been far more beneficial for the community? Get real!

Maimonides bought this building from a Jew in 2005 for $2.4 million. Where were the outcries then? And for those who are so worried about quality of life and "there goes the neighborhood", why didn't anyone pressure the landlord to rent the apartment to Jews when he still owned it?
I have yet to see prices in any heimishe neighborhood decrease, so don't give me the baloney that real estate prices will drop. If anything, prices will go up because if Maimonides wants buildings, it will have to pay whatever the sellers want. If not, they won't get it (but maybe the Chinese with their bags of cash, will.)
As far as I see it, parking will be a big hassle, but Maimonides (and any other commercial building owner) should be forced to include parking in its plans.

All these people who hate the hospital so much should move out of the neighborhood. Then MMC can buy their properties and put up another 10 story parking garage. Problem solved!!!

They are looking for a zoning varience that would change the present permit of building and use,
and by nyc law the neighbors have a right to voice their refusal to change to a different zoning, and the neighbors are doing exactly that,

The problem is the relationship the hospital has with its neighbors is that they try to shove down the throats any thing that they desire and could line their pockets with government grants (yes line their pockets)
whenever they do a larger project money falls off to the directors and buyers etc.this is the perception in the community

this hospital is suppose to be a community hospital and people in the community dread to let their loved ones enter it only in dire emergency

this is why hatzalah takes patients to lutheren, LI collage Hosp.
and the manhattan hospitals because the ignorance of the staff and nurses to the cries of patients and the sub standard care they give except for the cardiac ICU and the maternity ward

just visit them in middle of the night and hear how loud they talk and make noise and wake up the sick

a few years ago with the help of some politicians came upon a plan to close off 10th av for auto traffic and build in that place a monument and garden to honor some directors of the hosp. that was also done without consulting the community leaders as to the trafic hardship this will create for the buses that pick up and drop off the school children and the general publics hardship. but when the public got wind of this plan they approached the politicians that sanctioned it and also went down to the hearing and suceeded for them to drop the plan.

this is the same problem rather then expansion and encroach on the scarce housing and parking let them fix and improve what they have and not take what they should not have.
DR

has anyone ever got into the parking garage i went in the last month 6-7 times at 5pm thay dont let you in thay tell me the garage is full & its only for the someone that works for maimonides its a shame and forget to find a parking
the nurses call each other on the cell phone when thay leve from a parking spot....

i am sooo with u poster 12;38.i live here in the 'hood'and between the hospital and metropolitan workers it is almost impossible to find a spot in 15 minutes. they save the spot for their friend from the next shift...i am also upset that i cannot be hired there for a job, i have tried and tried, but i have no connections.they dont want to hire frum jewish people from the community...

I live in the neighborhood of Maimonides. I agree that the hospital is taking over the neighborhood. We asked the higher-uppers why they don't build another garage... they cant afford it, they said.. Gimme a break!!!!!! They bought the building on the corner of 46th and 10th ave. They bought Jeffer's funeral chapel. They purchased 2 houses on 50th btwn 9th and 10 ave. The poor tenant has to move out because Maimonides kicked them out!!! How much more can we take???? You say we don't complain when the wedding halls opened up? Of course the neighbors complained. Vishnitz Hall is still pending. Ydden ...wake up! We need to stop this. Maimonides has medical buildings on 8th ave as well. Why cant they expand there? Just so you know.... as soon as they get the green light to change the zoning on 46th and 10th ave, they will build up more floors to make apartments for the nurses/doctors. Ver darf de chaleres in our neighborhood??? Look at 47th corner 9th ave. Its owned by the hospital too. You can buy drugs there any time, day or night. Im sure you dont want that in your backyard. The hospital knows about the drug problem but they turn a deaf ear. Ok, I said enough...Get my point?????
