New Halachah Scandal - Easy Light brand prepared Chanukah lights pull oil switcheroo

Easy Lights brand prepared Chanukah lights are the basis for a new scandal where money overrides morality and Halachah. The Easy Lights, which are little glass lamps filled with oil and a wick, were selling for $13.99 for a full set, which is half the price of any other brand. Competitors could not believe that it was possible to sell prepared Chanukah lights in glass holders filled with extra virgin olive oil for such a low price, so they sent it to a lab to be checked out. The lab results showed that the lights did not contain olive oil, but was rather filled with inexpensive everyday vegetable cooking oil. The Bal HaMachshir has already pulled his Hechsher and has declared the maker as defrauding the people.

Comments:
why is this a scandal?L'chatchila you are supposed to use olive oil.Besides for the consumer fraud of selling vegetable oil to people who were looking to use olive oil L'mehadrin.

Once again, the baal hamachshir is blaming someone else. It is his job to verify the ingredients and monitor the production which was obviously not done.

I am not one to give out hechsherim, but would not theone who gave the hechsher also know what's in the bottle?

Goes to show how un-reliable these so called hashgachos are.
Who spposedly gave his hashgacha with out actually checking to see the origination of this oil?
Pulling the hashgacha does not do much good after chanucka is over.

This is the same crooks that sold the oil candles that melted!

Ah. So now I know. The way to fool the people *and* the Baal Machshir is to not charge half price. I'll price it for only slighty less than the competition.

Nice system.

I guess the company can just switch hechsherim and go sell treife meat. That is where the real money is!

Who's hechsher did it have???

It's high time to hold Hechsherim responsible.
There is absolutely no possible Limud Z'chus for the Baal Hamachshir here.
If this doesn't show you that they are not watching the ingredients, what will? This is exactly hoe kosher consumers are being defrauded. We need to boycott the HECHSHER to show him we expect acoountability that they either know what's going on or they don't.

I spoke to the person from aarons Judaica who is the company selling this itemwho can be reached at 914-5842999 who claimed that it was the compotition trying to bad mouth him & assured me that it is not vegatable oil I then asked him if that is the case why does R. Ashkenazi claim never to have given a hechsher which he explained to me that R ashkenazi does not give a hechsher on anything but is suymuch on the Udvaree Ruv which does give a hechsher

I tried contacting the labratory whos letter head was on the letter but they did not want to confirm anything without autherization from there client but they did not want to tell me who there client was nore give me there phone # to contact them so that leaves this is a stale mate as far as that goes.

it's the same ones selling the infested Romaine lettuce. They constantly cpme up with a new hechsher, always unreliable ones to say the least.

Hey he'd be a great salesman for Rubashkin's supreme.

I know the inventor of the original 'Ner Light'. All the rest copied his idea and then had them manufactered in China.
He told me that he looked into manufactering in China at one point and then found out that it is impossible to import olive oil there.
(so he knew that not only did the other company steal his idea, but that they were falsly advertising 'virgin olive oil' on their product.)
