Judge OKs wall for splittin' Hasidic spouses

A judge has ordered a soon-to-be divorced couple to live unhappily ever after in the Borough Park home they shared for 18 years - by having a wall built smack dab in the middle of their dining room.

Millionaire sweater manufacturer Simon Taub was granted permission during divorce proceedings in August to divide the home with sheetrock walls, so he wouldn't have to relinquish it to wife, Chana Taub.

Simon, 57, would have his own kitchen, bedroom and bathroom in a 900-square-foot area on two floors of the 49th St. home.

"I don't wish this on anybody," said Chana Taub, 56, whose husband owns homes across the borough, including the house next door. "I hope God will help, and somebody will straighten out this whole thing."

Chana Taub has appealed Judge Sarah Krauss' ruling. But if the decision is upheld, the former lovebirds could be walking into the same home, divided in two - just like in the 1989 film starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

The wall drama began in August when Krauss granted the wife an order of protection against Simon Taub, who owns TechKnits Inc. of Williamsburg.

But citing the husband's heart condition, Krauss approved his bid to build the wall, saying, "I am not going to be excluding him entirely from his home.

"The best way to deal with this is to split the home," Krauss said, according to court documents - even though the husband owns the house next door.

Krauss, who recused herself in December following objections from Chana Taub's attorney, Susan Settenbrino, also offered a court-mandated outline for postmatrimonial bliss.

"Neither party shall interfere with any of the electrical, plumbing, phones or other systems located in their respective portions of the marital residence," Krauss wrote.

"No litigant should have to endure this kind of abuse," Settenbrino said of Krauss' decision. "There should be recourse for such orders without having to spend $200,000 [on the appeal]."

Simon Taub's attorney, Frank Snitow, said the wall would separate portions of two floors, but only give about 25% of the home to his client.

Snitow cited the home's proximity to Simon's doctor's office, a nearby synagogue and his four kids, two of whom still live in the house with his wife. "I don't think it's an extraordinary measure under these circumstances," he said. "This is one of the largest homes in Borough Park. You could even call it a mansion."

Can anyone find a link to the opinion the judge wrote.

If you marry a heimisha gold digging bitch you pay the price. He is lucky he could still live in his house, most men end up in a dog house and the wife keeps the house and moves in a strange man into her ex husbands bed. Thank G-d Im single and dont need to worry that some witch of a wife will trump up charges and have the police pull me out of bed and into jail as happened to a number of heimisher friends I know. What feminism has done to America is worse than Islamic terrorist. They only destroyed two buildings and the feminist destroy millions of American homes each year. Better to live in peace alone than an evil wife.

hey kid, calm down, no one is forcing you to get married, ok?

I know this has got nothing to do with the above article .
But does anyone have any insight about this *anonymous letter* that was sent out to thousands of frum people and is circulating in the flatbush/ boro park area, in regards to a scandal in *yeshiva torah temima*?

I agree with that kid who expressed his complaint about todays women here in New York. I myself as a divorced man can tell you about the horrors I have seen men go through. I am Boruch Hashem divorced and in my late fifties and I dont even try to date any New York women especially divorcees. Every divorcee I ever did meet always tells me that her ex was abusive. I ask her if he ever hit her she says no.So how was he abusive. He was too busy working and did not give her more attention. That is called abuse. Today there are a whole list of abuses.Physical abuse, verbal abuse, silent abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse which includes either too much or too little, financial abuse and a whole listing more at your local divorce lawyers office. So many women who throw their husbands in prison for made up charges that I think no husband should give a get to any woman who does that to him.Measure for measure. If he puts him in jail let the husband keep her locked up as an Agunah. The Torah knew that such dangerous times were coming and therefore gave a man a fighting chance for his money, house and kids by giving him sole power to give a get.Never give a get.I was an idiot and gave a get and then I was like a cow to the slaughter. My kids were not allowed to be shown to me,my home was taken, and all my hard earned money in the bank was frozen and if I didnt pay child support I would be thrown into prison faster than a mafia killer. Thank G-d I met a friend who was smart and thought me how to cut all my child support which was being used mostly to support my ex wifes clubbing in Israeli clubs. I just put myself on public assistance by checking into a homless shelter. Once I had that ID the courts could not hurt me anymore. As far as my kids they were poisioned by my ex and I dont want to ever see them again not in this world or in the next.

WHAT IS THE SCANDAL ,IN TORAH TEMIMAH CAN SOME ONE TELL ME?

Dont Judge anyone by assumptions.
You dont know the facts and circumstances.
Don't stereotype.
There are all sorts of people in this strange place.
Womens rights are granted and protected by the Torah ,Talmud and Shulchun Aruch. Jewish daughters
are not hefker as some men think.
May there be a lot of peace and harmony in our homes.

WARNING !!!!!! ATTENTION ALL PARENTS

There is a chronic child molester in our midst. No, he is not
in hiding nor is he being kept away from our children.
Shockingly, he is a Rebbe in Yeshiva Torah Temima.
Rabbi Lipa Margolies knows of this Rebbe’s history of
sexually molesting children.
Rabbi Lipa Margolies refuses to remove this predator from his yeshiva.
Specifically, Rabbi Lipa Margolies has been repeatedly informed, from sources
independent of each other, that Rabbi Yidi Kolko has sexually molested
countless children during his long career around children.

Rabbi Yidi Kolko sexually molested children in Camp Agudah. Rabbi Yidi Kolko sexually molested children in Yeshiva Karlin Stolin. Rabbi Yidi Kolko sexually molested children in Camp MaNaVu. Rabbi Yidi Kolko spends his life around our children. It bears repeating that Rabbi Yidi Kolko is a Rebbe in Yeshiva Torah Temima.

We have a problem. This is not to say that our wonderful community has a
greater percentage of child molesters than other communities. We may even
have substantially less. Our problem is in our unwillingness to deal with this
horrendous problem. Child molesters must be removed from our midst. Our
children must not be subjected to them. Rabbi Lipa Margolies must stop his
unconscionable covering up of this problem and Rabbi Yidi Kolko must resign his position immediately.

We will not rest until our children are safe from this
scourge. The next move is going to be the mass media. You think your a Knocker?, not to the newspapers and the TV media.

We are writing to ask that you speak out and help bring an end to this problem.
Child molesters must be kept away from our children.
Our children deserve no less.

Concerned people please express your outrage, call Lipa Margulies at 718-438-1900 and Yudi Kolko at 718-252-6642

Lipa Margulies- You have ten days to remove Kolko from the school, or this letter goes out to the entire Frum Community! You Are Warned!!!

From the mouth of Donald Trump: "Get a prenuptial agreement!"

are there any updates on this letter? did he do anything about it?

I believe all men are animals and all women are saints. Women suffer as men go around late at nights hanging out with their friends. The frum women are really frum while the men roam the streets looking for shiksas. I as a woman have seen and heard all about it. W women need more power.

maybe they should apply this solution to bobov

Hey man basher, maybe we need OUJ (the TT letter writer) to bash you up a bit and put you in your place. Women should stay at home, cook, clean, dress the kids AND MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS.

WHY ARE THEY STRUTTING UP AND DOWN THE AVENUES DRESSED TO KILL???

SO ALL THE MEN SHOULD LOOK AT THEM?

Worry about your own shortcomings first, before you hock about men.

It takes two to tango. In every case, one person is more wrong than the other, but usually both have legitimate complaints. However, when a couple divorces, it is (physically and emotionally) healthier if they don't get bitter and discuss the issues like two adults. (And I mean this in the case of Bobov, too.) Men bashing women and women bashing men is just plain immature.

From the viewpoint of secular law, I don't see a problem with this judge's decision. Why should the husband be forced to leave his home? If the wife doesn't like it, let her leave.

But I'm surprised that their rov is OK with this. Are they actually divorced yet? If so, it would seem to be against halacha to live in the same building.

Anonymous who wrote this: "Women should stay at home, cook, clean, dress the kids AND MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS." u r soooooooo wrong!!!! women r not made to only cook, clean and bring a buncha kids!!! they have the right to go in the streets too... and by the way, u dont hear that married women hang out in clubs, read porn...(add ur own, u probably know better then me) u hear all that crap about the men so shut up!!!

Is anybody doing anything to help Rabbi Kolko?

Did the accuser of Rabbi Kalko identify himself, or is he hiding behind his letter?

whoever says that all women are bad or all men are bad are just part of the mob without any thought of their own. there are some great modest women out there who dont treat their husbands like crap after theyre divorced and nice respectful men who dont look at porn or go to clubs and nobody has a right to say which one is the majority, the good or the bad. in the case with the split house, i think that judge should go to hell for doing that. and if this simon guy ever loved is wife he would just give her the goddamn thing and buy another one with his millions or just move into another one that he owns. he should also go to hell. and whoever wrote the letter about R' kolko should at least tell people who he is and not hide behind his letter. if what he says is true than what is he afraid of? he's just afraid that people will think he's a bastard with something personal against R' kolko. he should join the others down there too.

does anyone know if the guy making these accusations has any gedolim backing him or is he doing all this on his own?

you guys all sound like a bunch of fools! some magazine has an article of a guy that just fell off the planet after 30 years and makes claims against a teacher of his, and you guys are all over the rabbi like it's fact!! there is NO evidence of anything - this is not an open-shut case here! why do people always find it easier to side against a rabbi than for him?????? i think you enjoy the dirt... maybe you guys are the ones with the sexual problems...

Rabbi Kolko is a special person,
the fact that temimah stood behind him says alot. Margulius is not a stupid man, hes a buisness man, if he had the slightest doubt that kolko was guilty he would have tossed him
rabbi kolko until all this crap was published was a very well respected person, iyh rabbi kolko will proove his innocence and regain is good name he built yrs making..
I think we should all daven for rabbi kolko to give him the stregth to do get through this

Rabbi Kolko is special alright, but I would not put the word 'person' following it. His days of sidling up and agrressively pursuing are now in the open - and Kolko knew his turn would come. So now let him deal up to the music. Wonder how Kolko would have felt if his boy Mendy got felt up and attacked by a child molestor when he was growing up in Agudah

This is not just a case of people "siding against the rabbi." When I was in TT high school in the ’80s it was widely rumored that Kolko was a molester. However, I never knew the names of any alleged victims and it was all very hush hush.

The point is, these are not new allegations springing up after 30 years. When these old allegations resurfaced I was not at all surprised in light of the rumors that had been following this man for many, many years.

i feel this is crazy and what you are doing to rabbi kolko is outragous. i have known him for 22 years and counting all my life i was around him . he never did any off this garbage you are saying about him. he is one of the most respected people in our comunity.i personally no all his family and even went to his school and camp, he never once touched any body. who ever is putting this out about him knows the real truth and the day will come for you to stand up to g-d for what you are causing this rabbi.

dont know R Kolko personally. However, all this blatant lashon harah has been extremely disturbing to me. So I went around to over a dozen of his colleagues, as well as students, for over 20+ years - the people who have watched him in action and know his modus operand. Every single person who worked with him was shocked, and completely not mekabel any of these accusations. However, there is a clear consensus that his strictness, especially in his earlier years at torah temima, would place him at the top of many of his students’ hit-list. In addition, and this is an extremely important point (at least in my book), many of his colleagues have emphasized to me his integrity, particularly in the same areas he is being accused of violating. The feeling I had from speaking with his former students was that he was very strict, and while some did not wish him well, even the ones who didnt like him could not point to anything of an illicit nature in his conduct - either by first-hand experience or by word-of-mouth. Moreover, the majority of his former students said that in their minds, these accusations are in no way true.
Now lets look at the other side of the argument. You have R Margolis who has had a thriving Yeshiva for many years. He is a smart business man. He would have to be retarded to keep a pedophile in his midst. Its just bad business.
Furthermore, psychological disorders such as pedophilia are generally progressive; that is they would get worse over time, not better. Yet the only accusations come from very long ago. One of the known accusers came from a broken home. Is it not possible that he had or has psychological issues. It is not uncommon, especially in children, for people to project their fears onto others. Maybe he was molested by someone else, but as a defense mechanism projected it onto an innocent R Kolko. Maybe he had a vendetta against R Kolko back then, and he convinced himself that it was true. Further, his allegations seem almost too perfect, since they can neither be verified nor denied. The information mentioned in the allegations was and is known to all of his former students, and to the community at large. Have the accusers proven anything? Not yet, and maybe never.
What if R Kolko is innocent of the charges against him? What if all the lashon harah being spewed on forums like these are lies? His life and reputation will have been ruined for nothing. The arguments of where there is smoke there is fire are not valid from a Torah perspective, especially in this case which ultimately stems from the testimony of then non-bar-da’as (child), with potential negiyas (biases), no eidim (witnesses), no chazakas, not even circumstancial evidence, nothing to indicate that the ba’al taina (accuser) is truthful. Think of it this way - if someone can just accuse someone without any proof whatsoever, what would stop someone from randomly fabricating a story about you or I. It has probably all happened to us already where some lies were advanced about us - maybe in shidduchim, maybe in business. We all know how much it hurts, so why are we doing it to someone who by all proven accounts has devoted his life to the frum community. You know, according to the baalei mussar, the tzaras (pain) that R Kolko and his family are experiencing suggests his tzidkus (and not rishus), otherwise Hashem would leave a person alone to suffer in the next world.
Granted, everyone is afraid for their childrens’ safety; so am I. But everything about this is halachically wrong. There is no justification for aveira lishma (justifiable sin) in this case, and we all know where the road of good intentions leads to - g’hinom. Why dont we all stop with the lashon harah for a while. At least wait until the court case is over and see the results. And just remember, when you are mekatreig (prosecute) against someone else like this - machshava ra’ah chozer l’rosh she’chashvu (evil thought return to one who thought them). You just leyned v’ahavta l’reiacha kamocha (love your fellow jew as yourself). You would never want this done to you, in this way. So have faith in your fellow Jew, and move on

hmm let's see you say you know him for almost 20 years and know nothing of his 'behavior'. well guess what - i knew him for less and know all about his behavior. kolko was quite slick - brushing up against, and m aking oyu wonder if that really happened or were oyu imaginign it - until he finally got bold enough to come right out and grab your privates. So if you do not know about this let me tell you I do. Hiding behind the orthodox bullshit aint gonna help this time yuddy boy. when i knew you you did not even have a beard while you were stroking in your blue car. then in agudah you would take us up to your bedroom - in the main building. while everyone was downstairs eating in the main dining room. Yuddy I am coming back for you and guess what when I reintroduce myself to your wife she will remember exactly who i am. and be shocked. I had pity on you when i spotted you in amazing savings a couple of years back b/c you were with your family. maybe i should not have been so nice. well guess what yuddy your turn is coming up. O and Margo I went to your yeshiva too back then ONLY it was called torah vodaas on ocean parkway before you lost your bais din ruling.

rabbi kolko is the best guy around if anyone thinks its true and tells everyone BURN IN HELL!!!!!!!

In response to the question regarding Judge Krauss's opinion in the above mentioned divorce case - opinions in matrimonial cases are not published, specficially they are private and only the parties and their attorneys are privy to the information.

In respect to Rabbi Kolko, the Jewish Community has to realize once and for all that sex offenders exists all over and by claiming that victims of abuse are hiding because their claims are not true is absurd. Victims fear the response from the community. We should all be understanding and want to protect the victims rather than the sick individual who feels that he has to hurt our children because he is unable to control his own sexual urges. I look forward to the day when Rabbi Kolko has the opportunity to be behind bars and meet bubbba who will be more than happy to treat him to his own sexual assault. Midah k'neged midah!

do you think rabbo kolko is innocent now! He hurt some children and the yeshiva didnt do anything about it because they think they are higher then g-d. Yeshivas dont care about children. They care only about how to make more money!

In reading this story and the comments that were made I am at a loss here. I am not Jewish. Nor am I an unhappily divorced woman. All I know of them is what the press has written.
But I can say as a divorced mother of 3 that they both should take a long look at themselves. Take a step back and see what they are doing to not just each other but the children that they have made.
When I left my husband it was because of the mistakes we had BOTH made. I placed blame on us both equally. 7 years later we are divorced. And we both still love each other and care about each other. There is a vast difference to loving someone and being IN love. When I left I took the younger children 2 kids and 3 suitcases. That was it. 5 or 6 months later he figured out that I was not poisoning the kids against him. That we both needed the time apart. That divorce was the best thing for our family. That we would all be happier without the constant tempers and stress and agruements. I asked him to help financially with the kids. I did not demand it nor did I expect it. After all they are my children too.
He agreed and was generous to a fault when it came to seeing that they were taken care of. I did not ask that he take care of me financially. As we were not together it was no longer his responsibility. But still he was kind enough to ask and at times I took him up on it.
This couple should take a long hard look at what made them fall in love in the first place. Remember that they have children who are more important than anything else. And let the hate go. It seems to me that this has all come down to money. What one thinks they deserve and what one thinks they should have to pay.
Forget about it. Yes he should have to pay for his kids. As long as they are still minors. But so should she. She is a parent also. He says that he has little or no money. But where does it mention her income. If the children are old enough to be in school then why is she not able to support herself and help to support her children ?
They both need to look at the example they are setting for the kids. And for each other.

BY THE WAY ISN'T THIS TAUB GUYS NAME TERKELTAUB. HE DIVORCED HIS FIRST WIFE TOO WITH BIG SCANDELS. HOW COME HE CALLS HIMSELF TAUB? IS HE ASHAMED OF HIS REAL NAME? EVERYBODY WHO KNOWS HIM KNOWS WHAT A UNTRUSTED WOMENIZER HE IS.

There are most definatly "bad rabbis" out there... the fact that you keep going after rabbi yudi kolko is WRONG. I believe the allegations against him are exactly that, i do NOT have a reason as to why they are alleged, however i know rabbi kolko as a rebbe from when i was a child, a mentor in my teenage years, and as a rabbi and collegue as an adult. I do NOT believe he is capable of the alleged crimes, i do not know the supposed victims, i do NOT know if their is any conspiracy between them, i do not know if they are ppl looking for a dollar..and the funny thing is NONE OF us know this forsure... I think though, the fact that this man dedicated his life to his talmidim and gave his life to his campers and students gives him the same right that the worst criminals have which is INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY....Why cant we give the man that? why continually shmutz his name? he is a man with kids and grandkids? would u want ur zaidy farshmutzed like that, even if ur zaidy WAS guilty? lets give rabbi kolko the benenfit of doubt that anyone else would get and some sort of respect....
I hope to god he is innocent, and pray that he is.....but let him have his fair day in court and let justice be served..and at the end, 120, hashem will have the final word..UOJ and others that bad mouth rabonim should be very careful, as hashem looks out for his soldiers...our rabbonim are human and its possible for a rav to make a mistake and support and innocent person, but more likely for us laymen to attack an innocent person, as often we talk on hearsay and not on facts...
WIshing u all a good shabbos and some thoughts to think about....
be Dan Lkav Zchus and we will all be happier people...
