Suicide attempt at Macy's

A shoplifter was clinging to life last night after he tried to hang himself inside a holding cell at Macy's flagship Herald Square store. The alleged shoplifter, identified as David Gonzalez, was locked up by Macy's security guards after being accused of stealing $423 in shirts, jeans and a sweat suit yesterday afternoon, said cops. Gonzalez, 26, was busted after security cameras caught him allegedly grabbing merchandise. Members of the store's private security force pounced and put him away in the bowels of the store to await arrest by police, It's not clear exactly how long he was incarcerated by Macy's, but cops arrived at the store to arrest him just after 5 p.m. The officers then found Gonzalez inches away from death as he dangled from a makeshift noose tied around his neck, police said. Gonzalez, who was alone in the cell, fashioned the noose out of shoe laces. I thought the most dangerous part of shopping was overspending, guess I was wrong, so keep a lookout in Eichlers or Landaus, you might save someone's life.
